Concrete Driveway Installation in Conroe & Montgomery County
Your driveway takes more abuse than any other slab on your property — vehicles, oil, sun, rain, and shifting clay underneath. A driveway poured right handles all of it for decades.
The Service
What Is a Concrete Driveway?
A concrete driveway is a reinforced slab poured directly on a prepared subgrade, designed to support daily vehicle traffic and resist cracking from soil movement, temperature changes, and weight loads. Unlike asphalt, concrete doesn’t soften in Texas heat. Unlike pavers, it won’t shift or settle unevenly over compressible fill.
Installation begins with excavation to proper depth, followed by subgrade compaction — a step that matters more in Montgomery County than almost anywhere, given our CH-class clay. Gravel base is spread and compacted, forms are set to grade with proper slope for drainage, and reinforcement (fiber mesh, rebar, or both) is placed.
The concrete is poured, screeded, floated, and broom-finished. Control joints are saw-cut within 12–24 hours at 8–10 foot intervals to manage shrinkage cracking. The result is a driveway that supports vehicle loads up to 8,000 lbs per axle at 5” thickness and lasts 25–30 years with minimal maintenance.
Our concrete driveways are engineered for Montgomery County’s challenging clay soils and extreme temperature swings. Every driveway includes reinforced steel, proper control joints for expansion, and expert grading for drainage. Whether you need a new pour, an extension, or a full replacement, we deliver smooth, durable surfaces that handle daily traffic and Texas weather for decades.

Our Process
How We Handle Every Project
Subgrade & Base
Excavate, remove organics, compact in lifts. Problem lots get additional gravel base or geotextile fabric. This is the #1 reason driveways fail in this area when skipped.
Forming, Rebar & Pour
Rigid forms staked at tight intervals for clean edges. Fiber mesh in every mix, rebar on 18" centers under RV or truck pads. Grade verified with a transit before pouring.
Finish & Cure
Broom finish for traction, curing compound applied immediately. Saw-cut joints within 12–24 hours. Stay off the surface 7 days minimum before driving on it; full cure at 28 days.
The Difference
Why Choose Creative Concrete Designs for Driveways
Firefighter-owned and operated by Michael Goff. Discipline, accountability, and pride on every pour across Montgomery County.
Subgrade Prep for Clay Soils
Montgomery County sits on Lissie and Beaumont formation clay — soil that swells when wet and shrinks when dry. We excavate to proper depth, remove organic material, and compact in lifts. Skipping this step is the number-one reason driveways fail here.
Proper Thickness & Reinforcement
Every residential driveway gets a minimum 4” pour. Heavier-load areas — truck pads, RV spots — get 5–6” with rebar on 18” centers. No “budget” pour thickness; the minimum is already the correct minimum.
Grading & Drainage
Your driveway should move water away from your garage and toward the street. We shoot grade before forming, verifying fall across the surface. In higher-water-table areas near Lake Conroe, drainage planning is especially critical.
Clean Edges & Formed Transitions
Rigid forms and stakes at tight intervals produce straight, clean edges. Transition ramps to the garage slab are formed, not hand-floated, for consistent thickness and a finished look that holds up.
Common Questions
Driveways FAQ
How thick should a concrete driveway be?
Residential driveways in Montgomery County should be 4” minimum for standard passenger vehicles. If you’re parking a heavy truck, boat trailer, or RV, 5–6” with rebar reinforcement is the right call. Going thinner almost always leads to cracking and failure within a few years.
How long does a concrete driveway take to install?
Most residential driveways are poured in a single day. The full process — excavation, subgrade prep, forming, pour, and finish — typically takes 1–2 days depending on size. You’ll need to stay off the surface at least 7 days before driving on it. Full cure takes 28 days.
Why is my concrete driveway cracking?
Common causes: inadequate subgrade prep, insufficient thickness, too few control joints, or rapid drying during cure. In Montgomery County, the most common cause is soil movement — our clay swells and shrinks dramatically with moisture changes. Proper subgrade and joint spacing reduce cracking significantly.
Can you pour concrete in Texas summer heat?
Yes, but it requires planning. We start pours early in the morning during summer, use set-retarding admixtures when needed, and begin curing compound application immediately after finishing. Hot-weather concrete is routine here — it just requires experienced crews who know the timing.
How much does a concrete driveway cost in Conroe?
A standard broom-finish driveway runs $8–$15 per square foot depending on size, access, and demolition needs. A typical two-car driveway (400–500 sq ft) usually lands between $4,000–$7,000. Stamped or decorative driveways cost more. Exact pricing at the estimate — no ranges.
Should I seal my new driveway?
Sealing is recommended but not required. A penetrating sealer protects against staining and surface wear. Most driveways benefit from an initial seal after curing (28+ days) and then resealing every 3–5 years. In heavy tree cover areas, sealing also helps prevent tannin staining from leaves.
